PLAY IT: Doscher's Candies

Have you ever thought about the hidden sounds in the world around you? The Roebling Suspension Bridge, a Cincinnati landmark, hums with life as cars pass, cables vibrate, and winds whistle through its beams. What if those sounds could be captured and turned into music? It’s a fascinating blend of engineering and artistry, where a structure becomes an instrument of its own. And who knows, maybe your surroundings hold their own hidden symphony too. Curious? Take a listen.

Capturing the Sounds of Tradition

We took a trip to the Doscher’s Candies factory in Cincinnati, Ohio, where candy has been made by hand since 1871. Using their century-and-a-half-old candy-making process as inspiration, we recorded the sounds of their factory – the bubbling of copper kettles, the rhythmic kneading of candy, and even the satisfying snap of French Chew nougat. These everyday sounds became the building blocks of music.

A Holiday Classic, Reimagined

The result is a completely original version of Jingle Bells – one that doesn’t just celebrate the holidays but also pays tribute to Doscher’s legacy. For over 150 years, they’ve made candy the same way, by hand and with care. That sense of craft, history, and attention to detail inspired us to turn their factory into an instrument.

Telling Stories Through Sound

At PLAY Audio Agency, we believe sound can tell stories in unexpected ways. This project was our chance to capture not just the process, but the personality of a place that’s been part of Cincinnati for generations. Listen to our version of Jingle Bells and hear the sounds of tradition, reimagined.
