Overview

At BLINK 2024, one of the largest light and art festivals in the country, Still Searching was featured as part of the impressive lineup of installations. With over 2.5 million people in attendance, the event transformed Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky into a canvas for light, art, and innovation. Still Searching was projected onto the iconic Cincinnati Music Hall, a landmark that is deeply embedded in the city's cultural identity, making it an honor to be part of such an event.

Designed and animated by Chaske Haverkos and paired with original music and sound design from PLAY Audio Agency, Still Searching explored themes of discovery, curiosity, and human connection. It was a unique project that combined the energy of live projection mapping with music, bringing the Music Hall to life in a way that hadn’t been done before.

The Project

When we were approached to work on Still Searching, we knew we had something special in front of us. The goal was to create a projection mapping experience that not only worked with the music hall’s stunning architecture but also told a story of exploration and wonder. By blending cutting-edge animation with an original score, we aimed to transport the audience into a world of sound and light, where every beat of the music connected with the movement on the building’s façade.

The Role of Sound

Music is at the core of what we do at PLAY Audio Agency, so the opportunity to create an original soundtrack for Still Searching was exciting. We focused on crafting a score that would evolve with the animation, creating an immersive experience that worked hand-in-hand with the visuals. By mixing electronic elements with orchestral tones, we aimed to capture the feelings of awe and wonder that were central to the piece’s theme. The sound design also added layers of texture, pulling the audience deeper into the experience and helping to shape the narrative.

Why BLINK and Cincinnati Music Hall?

We couldn’t have asked for a better platform for Still Searching than BLINK. With its reputation for bringing together cutting-edge art and technology, the event draws attention from all over the world. The festival’s ability to bring people together to experience immersive art made it the perfect place to showcase this kind of work.

And when it comes to venues, Cincinnati Music Hall was the ideal choice. Its history and cultural significance made it an incredible canvas for the animation and sound design. To see our work projected on such a renowned landmark was truly an honor and a milestone for us.

Impact and Reception

The response to Still Searching was fantastic. It stood out among the many incredible installations at BLINK 2024, drawing attention not only for its visual impact but also for how the sound really brought the projections to life. The work received praise for the way it harmonized visuals and audio, showing the power of collaboration between design and music.

For us, it was more than just a project. It was a chance to be part of something bigger—an event that celebrated creativity and innovation, and to do so with a team that values the importance of sound in storytelling.
